FAQs
Like any other DAB digital radio, Highway uses its aerial to receive DAB digital radio signals that are broadcast from transmitters around the UK.
Highway comes complete with a high-sensitivity aerial that sticks to your car’s windscreen. This should enable you to receive digital radio when you’re driving in an area with DAB digital radio coverage. To use Highway as a personal DAB digital radio, you will need to slot in two AA batteries and connect a pair of headphones. The headphones will then act as the aerial. Please note batteries and headphones are not supplied.
Yes. It is simple and quick to remove Highway, and once it has been removed your original car stereo will work as it always used to. You will need to peel the adhesive aerial from the windscreen, but any residue from doing so is easy to remove using standard cleaners. If you want, you can also disconnect the main Highway unit each time you leave the car (see answer to next question).
Highway connects to its flexible mount using a strong magnet. This means that at the end of each car journey, it is simple to detach the main DAB digital radio part and take it with you. You can then even use Highway as a personal DAB digital radio.
When Highway is set up in your car, it draws power from the cigarette lighter socket. Highway comes complete with the leads you need to connect in this way. If you want to use Highway as a personal DAB digital radio, you will need to slot in 2 x AA batteries and connect a pair of headphones (batteries and headphones not supplied).
Highway has a built-in FM transmitter which enables it to communicate with your existing car stereo – it’s the same principle as the iTrip. Highway will intelligently locate a spare FM frequency and display it on the screen. When you tune to that frequency on your main car stereo, you will be able to listen to DAB digital radio. If your car stereo has a screen, it will display “PURE DAB” when you tune to the right frequency. If your car has an auxiliary input, then you can directly connect Highway to that and get an even clearer digital signal.
Yes. Highway will allow you to connect your iPod or other MP3 player using a 3.5mm aux-in socket. Once you’ve got it connected, Highway’s built-in FM transmitter will then act in the same way as an iTrip – allowing you to listen to music from your iPod through your car stereo.
In addition to the main benefits of DAB digital radio (greater station choice, tuning by station name, scrolling text information, digital-quality sound) Highway also offers ReVu technology. This allows you to pause and rewind live DAB digital radio, putting you in control of your radio listening. It also includes quickSCAN (see answer to next question).
Highway includes quickSCAN which intelligently scans the FM frequency band for gaps where there will be no interference for FM retransmission. This means that if you travel to an area where there is interference to the original frequency, you can swiftly and easily change to an alternative FM frequency.
